| Welcome to a character property in
a quiet location |
Built
in Cromwellian times, the
original Parkswood house
and its later additions are set in six acres
of grounds overlooking the beautiful River Suir. Wild fuscia
and a copse with ducks, herons and oyster catchers help provide
a tranquil setting in which to unwind, and the weather may
not
be as "Irish" as you expect - palm trees flourish
here thanks to a micro-climate warmed by the Gulf Stream.
Your Anglo-Irish hosts Roger and Terrie Pooley can trace
their roots back to Co. Tipperary and Co. Waterford respectively
-
indeed, Terrie's parents still live in Waterford town. After
successful careers in printing and costume design, and with
their two delightful daughters having left the family home
in
Weybridge, England, they crossed the Irish Sea to the "Emerald
Isle" in 2002 to lovingly and tastefully renovate Parkswood.
Friendly and efficient, they know how to balance hospitality
with discreet service.
Parkswood offers bed & breakfast
accommodation in three twin and two double bedrooms. Recently
refurbished and very comfortable, some rooms have small
balconies with lovely river views, and are equipped with
a colour TV. All are en suite with shower and toilet.
A hearty Irish breakfast or Contintental with fresh fruits,
is served every morning in the breakfast room or al fresco
on the terrace. With its fireplace, comfortable easy chairs
and views down to the river, the drawing room is a lovely place
in which to relax. Tea and coffee are available throughout the
day here, and cakes are served most afternoons. During the summer
there is an occasional lunchtime/evening barbecue in the grounds.
Vegetarian options are available in all instances.
For house guests there are plenty of lunchtime and evening
dining options in the area, ranging from tasty "pub snacks" to
an Egon Ronay listed restaurant. For those who don't fancy
driving, taxis can easily be
arranged.
