Out and About
As well as being a convenient and relaxing stopover location, Parkswood is a good base from which to explore this beautiful corner of Ireland and its fascinating history.

Popular gentle pursuits include painting, bird watching and visiting local country gardens, and there is a wide choice of local walks, including the well-known "Nun's Walk" along the coastline. As well as golf (there are three 18-hole golf courses within 10 kilometres), sports enthusiasts can choose from horse-riding, sea and fresh fishing, sailing and windsurfing.

Parkswood has its own hard surface tennis court within the grounds.
Local places of interest are within easy reach on trips of a day or less include:
  • Faithlegg (5km) Championship 18 hole golf course. Waterford Castle, West Waterford, Tramore and many other golf courses are also within easy driving distance.
  • Passage East Visited by Strongbow the Viking and Oliver Cromwell, nowadays this sleepy riverside hamlet welcomes friendlier visitors with open arms. It has two traditional bars, a Post Office and a frequent car ferry service across the River Suir to Ballyhack Co. Wexford (10.00 Euros return fare for a car and passengers).
  • Ballyhack a small fishing village, with its own castle which was built by the Knights Templar in 1450, it contains a small museum.
  • Arthurstown (2km) This small village on the eastern banks of the River Suir is a five-minute car ferry ride from Passage East, and about an hour's drive from Rosslare and Wexford.
  • Waterford (10km) The historic and surprisingly cosmopolitan county town is home to a well-preserved Viking boat and a castle (built by persecuted Hugenots who eventually fled the country). As well as a good selection of shops, bars and eateries, you can also enjoy summer arts fairs, opera and festivals and, of course, visit the world famous Waterford Crystal factory.
  • Woodstown (5km) With a large sandy beach and horse-riding facilities, Woodstown is a scenic walk along the estuary from Passage East if you are feeling energetic enough.
  • Dunmore East (10km) A picturesque seaside village with beaches, sailing, pubs and restaurants - plus fish auctions (at the harbour).
  • Hook (20km) At the entrance of Waterford's estuary, Hook is one of the oldest operational lighthouses in the world, dolphins, whales and porpoises are often seen here.
  • Kilkenny (30km) A beautiful town about half an hour's drive away with many places of interest to visit.
